Le Gala des Étoiles was formed in 1986 by Victor Melnikoff, to spotlight dancers from around the world on a new, Canadian stage. The response was so incredible that tours were introduced in other cities. This event has become an international cultural tradition and has received world recognition and acclaim as the world's "summit" of classical and contemporary dance. It is the only major touring Gala of international dance stars in the world. Le Gala des Étoiles has been staged annually in Montreal (where it is based), as well as in the United States, Europe, Israel, and Mexico. In 1998 there were major presentations of Le Gala des Étoiles in Japan in April and at the Athens Festival in Greece in late June. The Gala will return to Montreal on September 10, 2009.
