Damian Woetzel
New York City Ballet
Born in Boston, Damian Woetzel began taking dance lessons
at the age of four at a local school in Newton, Massachusetts.
At seven, he entered the Boston Ballet School. At fifteen, he
moved with his famly to Los Angeles where he joined te Los Angeles
Ballet.
In 1984 Mr. Woetzel became Principal Dancer with the Los Angeles
Ballet where Artistic Director John Clifford created two roles
for him. Also in 1984, he enrolled at the New York City Ballet's
official school, the School of American Bellet; six months later
he joined the corps of the New York Ballet. In 1988 he was promoted
to Soloist and less than six months later to Principal Dancer.
His repertoire includes most classical principal roles as well
as contemporary works and several roles which have been created
especially for him.
