Tiekka Schofield

Tiekka Schofield grew up in Fresno, California, were she received
her early dance training with Shirley Winters at the Severance
School of Dance. In 1986, the Houston Ballet Academy invited
her to train year-round on scholarship. After winning the Princess
Grace Foundation Award and honors at the 1988 Prix de Lusanne
International Ballet Competitionthe in Switzerland, she was invited
to join the corps of Houston Ballet. Four months later she performed
her first principal role, the Sugar Plum Fairy in Stevenson's
Nutcracker. Throughout her career, Ms Schofield has danced a
great range of leading roles, receiving critical praise for both
her technical and dramatic abilities.
An extraordinarily versatile dancer, she has been featured
in choice roles in all the classics and has danced the contemporary
works of Paul Taylor, Trey McIntyre, James Kudelka, Jiri Kylian,
Glen Tetley, Cristopher Bruce and, of course, Ben Stevenson.
In addition to her many dancing roles, highlights of her career
include winning the bronze medal at the 1994 USA International
Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, and appearing on
the cover of Dance Magazine in November, 1994.
