Karen Kain

National Ballet of Canada

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Karen Kain received her dance training at the National Ballet School. Upon graduating in 1969, she joined the National Ballet of Canada and within one year was promoted to Principal Dancer. n 1972 she danced with Roland Petit's Le Ballet National de Marseille and performed with Nureyev in The Sleeping Beauty. She continued performing with Nureyev for many years. In 1973 Miss Kain won the silver medal in the Women's Category and the silver medal for Best Pas de Deux at the 2nd International Ballet Competition in Moscow. Miss Kain appeared as a guest star in many productions and with the major companies, including the Bolshoi, the London Festival Ballet and Makarova & Company.

On November 1988, the National Ballet of Canada held a Gala performance in honor of Miss Kain's twenty years with the company, and dedicated the 1994/95 season to Miss Kain in honor of her 25 years with the company. She was awarded the Order of Canada.
