Paloma Herrera

American Ballet Theater

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ms. Herrera began her dance studies with Olga Ferri at age seven and trained at the Institute of Art at the Colon Theatre. In 1985 she won first prize at the Latino American Ballet Contest in Lima, Peru, and Best Feminine Interpretation of Classical Dancing, at the Coca-Cola Contest in 1986. She then studied at the Minsk Ballet School in Russia. She received a scholarship from the Colon Theatre and Antorchas Foundation. She was awarded the Finalist Diploma at the XIV International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria, in 1990 and then took ballet classes with Principals at the English National Ballet in London. She continued her studies at the School of American Ballet where after six months she was seleted to dance the leading role in Raymonda at the school's annual workshop performance. She joined the American Ballet Theatre in 1991 at the age of fifteen and was promoted to Soloist two years later. In 1995 she was promoted to Principal Dancer.
