Jennifer Gelfand
Boston Ballet
Jennifer Gelfand was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and took
her first dance class at the age of three. At six she began her
formal dance training at the Boston Ballet School. In 1983, she
received a grant to study with New York Ballet Master David Howard.
In 1986, at age fourteen, she was awarded a gold medal at the
International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi. In
1988-89, she was a member of the Joffrey II Dancers and in 1989
Ms. Gelfand joined the Boston Ballet as Soloist and was promoted
to Principal the following year.
During the summer of 1990, she toured with 'Fernando Bujones
and the Stars of Boston Ballet'. In 1990 and '91 she appeared
as a guest artist with 'Nureyev and Friends' at the American
Ballet Competition and with the Eglensky Ballet, Ballet Mississippi,
Tampa Ballet and many others.
She has received awards from the American Academy of Achievement
and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. In 1989
she was named a Presidential Scholar and received a presidential
medal in a ceremony in the White House.
