Fernando Bujones
International Artist
Acclaimed as the greatest American ballet dancer of his generation,
Fernando Bujones was born in Miami, Florida, and started studying
in Havana, Cuba, at the age of eight. Four years later, he won
a full Ford Foundation scholarship at the School of American
Ballet in New York.
In 1972, he joined the American Ballet Theatre Company and
within two years became Principal Dancer one of the youngest
Principals in the world. In 1974, he became the first male American
to win the coveted gold medal as well as a special award for
Highest Technical Achievement at the International Competition
in Varna, Bulgaria. He has performed with such ballet companies
as the Royal Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Paris Opera
Ballet, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Berlin Opera Ballet, La Scala
in Milan, the Maurice Béjart Ballet XX Century and many
others.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bujones has received numerous prizes
including The Outstanding Young Man of America Award, the New
York Times Award and The Dance Magazine Award.
